Be careful while opening links on Instagram

Please be cautious when using the Instagram app’s built-in browser to open URLs.

I was curious to see what the user-agent of the Instagram app’s built-in browser would look like.

User-Agent is browser information that informs the visiting website about the browser (like the version. device used, device version, etc.)

This was done with the help of a link tracking programme. In the Instagram browser, I visited the link I generated, and the user-agent contains the name of the device, the operating system it runs on, and some other sensitive information.

With a normal browser, you only get the general information related to it.

Instagram’s built-in browser, on the other hand, was so different since it gave out so much information, which was frightening to see.

Well, seeing so much data being given out by Instagram isn’t surprising, but this info is being handed out to whatever random website we visit.

My observation about the user-agent shown in different applications

I figured out a solution to get away from the creepy tracking. wheregoes.com is a website that displays how many times a website redirects you to the end destination. You may use it to avoid being tracked and go to the final URL.

I’m working on an iOS shortcut for this, and it’ll be available shortly!

P.S. I’m not advertising wheregoes.com in any way; I’m only letting folks know that they may use it to avoid being tracked.
